About Us
LOCAL FOCUS
Founded in 2019 as Broomfield’s first bicycle advocacy group, Safer Streets Better Broomfield expanded its mission to all transportation and transportation-adjacent topics such as our city’s built environment, land use, housing, municipal fiscal health, and sustainability.
We celebrate what we have today in Broomfield: the high quality of life buoyed by amenities such as open space, multi-use paths, and locally owned businesses. And we push for more of them, so that for future generations, Broomfield will continue to be a place worth caring about.
We are both a service organization and an advocacy organization. We serve the local Broomfield community via events throughout the year (check out our event calendar). We support people who use low-impact transportation like walking, biking, public transit, scootering, skating, and using a wheelchair or walker. Everyone deserves to have a safe, comfortable, and convenient trip to their destination and back and they should never feel like they are risking their life, or sacrificing their schedule, to use low-impact transportation.
Additionally through advocacy we provide feedback to our local and state decision-makers to help shape the future state of our combined city and county. Specifically, we advocate for:

- Safer, quieter streets and safer routes to local schools
- A healthy population that benefits from regular active transportation
- Cleaner air quality through reduced gasoline and diesel consumption
- Biking infrastructure such as protected bike lanes and bike parking
- Reliable, frequent public transportation
- Allowing destinations to be closer together, thereby reducing sprawl
- More housing and more responsible growth
Our Values
Community Led & Community Focused
We believe change which happens at the local level can have the most positive impact on our daily lives.
Non-Judgemental
We will not judge anyone for their transportation choices. What we strive for is to give more people more choices.
Disruptive
The car-first status quo is bad for our bodies, our community connections, our pocketbooks, and our planet. We'll work to implement transformational change.
Partnerships
We are stronger together. We partner with the countless people and organizations doing great work in our community.
Uncompromising
We'll speak up and take action about safety and accessibility issues in our city and county.
